Depression, or Major Depression Illness, if you prefer, is a mental health disorder. When you have Depression your brain functions differently than a brain of a mentally healthy person, much as a schizophrenic's brain works differently than a mentally healthy person's. It is of no more use to say to a depressed person "Cheer up" than it would be to say to a Schizophrenic "Stop seeing things that aren't there" or to an Anorexic "Just eat already." Depression is a serious disease that kills many people every year, thousands in Canada alone. I am so very sorry that you lost someone dear to this disease.
